Delta State Teachers Punished for School Fight: Suspended, Assigned Toilet Cleaning & Facing Transfer

Two teachers from Ibru College, Agbarha-Otor, Delta State, have been suspended and ordered to clean staff toilets for one month after engaging in a physical altercation within the school premises.

The educators, Mr. Agofure R. and Mr. Etuh G., were found guilty of professional misconduct and have also been recommended for transfer to other public schools to maintain discipline at the institution.

Beyond these measures, both teachers are required to report to the Ughelli Zonal Office of the Delta State Post-Primary Education Board for further interrogation regarding the incident.

Additional Disciplinary Actions:

✅ Suspension from duty pending a final decision from the education board.
✅ Mr. Etuh G. ordered to vacate his official residence within the school premises within a month.
✅ Zero tolerance for misconduct reaffirmed by the school principal, Mr. Akporube L.O.

The school’s disciplinary committee strongly condemned the fight, emphasizing that such actions violate professional ethics and set a poor example for students.

Reactions to the Incident

Dr. Precious Omoruwou, a Senior Lecturer at Southern Delta University, criticized the teachers’ behavior, attributing it to flaws in the teacher recruitment process. She called for regular training and professional development to uphold the integrity of the teaching profession.

She stressed that educators should be role models, shaping the future of society, and must adhere to the highest standards of discipline and professionalism.

The incident has sparked strong criticism from parents and fellow educators, raising concerns about the maturity and ethical conduct of teachers in public schools.
